Is there life after being hacked?

Blogging has been quite an experience! I was blogging for about 7 or 8 years when I experienced a bad case of blogger-burnout and other issues relating to an ordinary life that killed my desire to blog. Can any other bloggers relate?

Anyway, in my absence from the blogging world my blog was seriously hacked and google warned anybody who searched for it. All is well now, fingers crossed.  In the process of cleaning and reclaiming this blog, so many photos have gone, even my header!

But, the blog lives on and I am in the process of replacing the lost photos in order to keep it going. I still get ping backs and mentions on some of my more popular posts. Thank You!

So if you’re here, I apologize for the missing photos. I’m working on that.

Love, Debbie

Pumpkin bread pudding

Any recipe with pumpkin and cinnamon is one for me. I’m such a sucker for autumn desserts. If you’re a carb lover then this is one for you too. French bread, pumpkin and cinnamon and warm, oh my goodness! Heavenly scent and heavenly taste.

I ate way too much of this so I don’t think I’ll make it often. Willpower, what’s that?

Dove conditioner and a Sweepstakes!

Recently I had the opportunity to try Dove damage therapy intensive repair hair conditioner. I really don’t need an intensive therapy conditioner for my hair, but I was definitely willing to try it out.  Because my hair is in good condition and doesn’t need a deep conditioner, my stylist told me to stay away from heavy products that may weigh down my straight hair.
When I tried Dove conditioner I noticed the clean scent and creaminess. It felt smooth on my hair and a little bit goes a long way. I liked how easily the bottle opened from the bottom and that’s a great idea for getting out the last drop.  Have you ever struggled trying to open a bottle in the shower? It’s frustrating!
The knots and snarls left after shampooing were gone, completely. A comb slid easily through my hair. This impressed me! I’ve had many knots after using some other conditioners. Styling my hair was easy and it was not weighed down or heavy at all.

If Summer has left your hair dry like straw, rough and stressed from the sun or chlorine, Dove’s conditioners provide patented technology to nourish your hair and repair the damage.
Fiber Active technology penetrates deep inside the hair strand, helping rebind damaged proteins (Intensive Repair and Color Repair only)
Patented Micromoisture Serum targets damage, repairing the surface of hair.
The treatment options for daily care are:

nourishing oil daily repair  Dual-action formula with a white stripe that seals the cuticle and a gold stripe that replenishes nutrients and nourishes.  It provides 3times the nourishing power of our regular conditioner.

and intensive repair daily conditioner

This is the product I tried. It penetrates deep inside to help rebind damaged proteins without weighing hair down. That’s exactly what I was concerned with. It has patented MICROMOISTURE Serum which repairs, intensely nourishes and seals lifted cuticles to help protect against future damage and left my hair silky smooth.

To improve the health of your hair, check out the full line of Dove conditioners, Oil repair conditioner, Intensive repair and Color repair.

Your hair will be smooth and shiny thanks to Dove. I always knew Dove had great products. I started using the bar soap many years ago. What’s your favorite Dove product?  Is is bar soap, hair care products or lotions? I like them all!

Now onto the sweepstakes!

This is my sweepstakes prompt, what is your favorite hair care product?

Softer skin with Dove’s new body wash and a Sweepstakes

At some point in the aging process we all yearn to be younger, maybe not in years but in appearance. Your skin is one thing visible to the world that reveals your years, so why not have it look its best, no matter your age, because if your skin is beautiful you’ll feel beautiful.

I’ve been given the opportunity to try a revolutionary line of premium body wash from Dove, a body wash that claims to improve the look of my skin after just one week. With that bold claim I was certainly skeptical. I use body wash but usually it’s a generic brand, so I was anxious to try it out and test these claims.

body wash

My shower time is my time to relax and let got of everyday stresses. If I found a product that made my shower even more pleasant, I’d want to use it everyday. With the highest concentration of NutriumMoisture technology across the Dove® portfolio, the new body wash did not disappoint.

Of the three variants, I tried the softening crème body wash. It claims to soften skin and dry spots. On my skin it felt like lotion with luxurious lather and had a light pleasant scent. It didn’t feel like soap. It felt like nourishment for my skin. In the Summer my legs are always so dry and scaly, but they aren’t anymore and I only used the body wash a few times. Seriously, my skin feels so soft and smooth just from a body wash!

soapy hands, body wash

The other varieties are, Dove® VisibleCare Toning Crème Body Wash, which helps to promote skin’s elasticity and strength and Renewing Crème Body Wash, which nourishes and replenishes skin. Dove® has turned the best of its technology into a luxurious experience for you to use at home as part of your daily routine.

As women we want to look our best and feel good in our own skin, and having beautiful skin will contribute to our sense of well being. We’ve all heard that 60 is the new 40. With youth being the message of today, we want to make sure our skin looks its best and Dove’s new body wash will do just that! It’s earned a permanent place in my shower!

Despite my initial skepticism, you can have visibly more beautiful skin from a body wash. To make sure your skin looks its best now that you’ve shed your winter wear, try Dove’s new line of premium body wash and show off your skin!

Be sure to visit Dove’s site, to see the full line of Dove products. Is your skin dry and scaly? Dove® VisibleCare® to get a coupon for $1 off!

Now here’s the sweepstakes!

Friday feature, {aka}design

Friday feature this week is akadesign. Dean & Shannon are the Canadian couple behind this  blog. They share  thrifty design finds, organization ideas & affordable DIY projects.  In their words, we show you how we reno and pretty up our wee little bungalow on a budget… all while lovin’ on our three growing kiddos.

Click on pictures to be taken to the source.

In the fall of 2009 they bought their second house…then a run down 67 year old, 1050 sq. ft. war-era bungalow. It was long on potential and short on just about everything else.

Lots of people would think that a house this size would be too small for a family of five but they have creatively used every inch of space.

In the entry a pretty gallery wall greets you.

They share plenty of inspiring before and afters and this kitchen has undergone a total transformation from the original.

I love this multi-functional room……a dining room, an office and a family room at the other end. It’s a perfect space for gathering. The banquette saves space and looks great!

This stenciled wall and beautiful painted hutch add lots of personality and provide storage.

The desk was a DIY knockoff project!  I love the industrial look with a classic chair. Board and battened walls architectural detail.

The family area with more DIY knockoffs….the shelves. You have to check those out!

The family room is so pretty and comfortable looking.

Another DIY, the headboard. I want those lamps!

An example of how to use every inch of space is in the boy’s room. The train slips under the bed.

At {aka}design you will find a ton of tutorials and DIY projects that will amaze. The ottoman is a DIY and it is fabulous!  Seriously there are so many wonderful projects at {aka}design, you will be amazed at this sweet little house. It lives so big!  Check it out!

With so many great blogs all over the blog-o-sphere, Friday Feature is a way to showcase other bloggers while gaining lots of decorating inspiration. If you have a project or makeover that you think is feature worthy, please email me or leave a comment.

The evolution of our Patio

Our patio has evolved into a space that we use more than we would’ve ever believed. It’s become an extension of our home and an outdoor room that we love. Click here to see how the patio has changed through the years. We have our morning coffee here, eat most of our meals, watch tv and take lots of naps. Sometimes I lounge about with a good book and if the light isn’t too bright I can use the computer.

This year we decided to add some really comfy furniture. I think it’s the most comfortable furniture I ever sat on.  Slept on too!

The collection is Cortland from the Woodward furniture company and the color is Spa. The stool, which my husband uses as an ottoman, was from Tuesday morning and I recovered it with some fabric I had. Because if the crescent shape of the sofa, I’m looking for a small round  coffee table.

With all the aquas and greens on the patio, it fits right in.

Behind the sofa you can see the old patio set. That thing is over 20 years old and has been painted black two times now. It was white originally and the cushions have been replaced many times. We decided to replace it with an oblong set when we find one at a decent price.

The chandelier isn’t wired, it recycled and adorned with twigs and branches. I can add led candles for a soft glow.

Across from the sofa is a tv and small fridge. Somehow I ended up with 2 old style tvs, but they both work great, so we have a spare tv when this one goes bad.  I’m on the lookout for something to hold both the tv and fridge. Something big since the furniture is so big. You can see a glimpse of my swing and I still love it!

I gathered some fresh cut flowers from the yard and put them in a pretty old mason jar.

patio table 2

On the other side is the old yardsale patio set.

patio table 22

The rugs are from I have plans to replace that light fixture by the door.

These urns are so old and beat up but I just spray them black every year and they are good to go. I like to plant shrubs in the urns for height, sometimes they live for a few years.

That’s the patio tour 2012!  Hope you liked it and enjoy your outdoor space as much as I do.Smile

Oh glorious day

O Glorious day, a beautiful song from Casting Crowns.

One day the grave could conceal Him no longer
One day the stone rolled away from the door
Then He arose, over death He had conquered
Now He’s ascended, my Lord evermore

Living, He loved me,

Dying, He saved me
              and buried,

He carried my sins far away

Rising, He justified freely forever

One day He’s coming,

               Oh glorious day

Little green guest room reveal.

I’ve only wanted to paint this room for a couple of years but it’s done at last. Finally. It’s only a small room, about 8 x 10, and I don’t really know why it took so long.

First I posted about picking the color, because that’s always a hard job for me. The color I chose is Aloe Vera by Olympic paints from Lowe’s.  After I was finished painting, I had some painter’s remorse, but as soon as I started finishing other projects for the space, I started to really like the color.  It’s a limey green, kind of lively.

Painting fabric on a chair was the next project. I do like how the chair turned out, but I’m not sure I’d ever do it again.q2012_01_18_3439

oak buffet

I posted the question, would you paint this?  No, was the answer I got from the comments. So I didn’t!

ombre chest

Using the leftover chair paint I created this cute ombre chest.

Fabric scraps became drawer pulls and covered a lampshade.

lampshade cotton strips2

Here’s the room now. I apologize for the poor picture quality. I’m slowly learning how to use the manual mode of my camera, but as you can see I haven’t mastered it yet.

iron bed

The tree is actually 3 branches and part of a root. I lightly sprayed them white, outside, on one of those gorgeous warm days. The zebra curtains and pillow are from my daughter. The other bedding I already had. The chest belonged to my Mom and the black chandelier pillow is from a giveaway I won from Kathy at Creative Home Expressions.   The iron bed is from a yardsale.

green and aqua room

Here’s the corner with the painted chair, it was given to me by my grandmother, another pillow I won and some recycled art.

bird prints

I painted and distressed the frames, painted the mats and printed out birds on the computer.  A little dab of hot glue holds the twig to the wall.

wall prints 2

The top of the chest holds a collection of ladies’ compacts and boot hooks. The walls aren’t different colors,  it was the camera’s fault!

bed stand

ombre chest

This mirror and the lamp are also from a yardsale and were sprayed white.

white mirrorHere’s the oak buffet that I wanted to paint white, on the other side of the room.

oak buffet

A collection of aqua and green glass sits on the buffet and I ordered some peacock feathers for the big vase.

aqua vignette

There’s pretty much empty wall space in this room but I’m not in a hurry to fill it up. I tried 2 times to create some typography art and 2 times failed. Someday I’ll give it another go but til then the walls will be bare.

This room might be a bit too sweet or teenage-ish for some, but it’s a bright spot for me. I’ve always wanted a lime green room.

Painting fabric on a chair Part 3

Painting the fabric on this chair is finally finished, at least as far as I’m concerned. Some of the nap of the fabric didn’t take the paint as well as other areas. But it is about 25 years old, so I guess that’s as good as it gets. The back of the chair looks best because there wasn’t any wear on the fabric.
qqqqqfabric painted chair
You can see the areas  I’m referring to where the fabric is worn. I’m happy with how it looks though. It’s a great color in this green room which I’ll be sharing soon. Today I actually spray painted some accessories for the room outside, because it was so warm.
You can see I used lots of paint and textile medium!
Here’s how I did it;
first I sprayed the fabric with water to really wet it down. Next, I mixed together equal parts acrylic paint and textile medium, thinned it with water and painted the chair in many thin coats, letting it dry thoroughly before adding another coat. I sanded any spots that felt stiff or rough between coats and that really made the fabric soft.
The trim and upholstery tacks got painted too. I was going to take off the trim and add new, but decided not to in the end. I think it looks ok as it is. Painting the legs and wood trim white really makes the color pop.

Here are Part 1  and  Part 2  in case you missed them.
This is the basic tutorial from Kristy at Hyphen Interiors, that I used and there are lots of examples of painted fabric and tips on this site.
So to sum it up I’d say, it’s ok for an accent chair in a guest room, but probably wouldn’t work on a full room of furniture or a chair that you like to curl up in. That’s just my opinion.
When this room is finished I’m going to move right along to the next project; it might be board and batten, bead board wallpaper, plank ceiling or painting the kitchen, family room and powder room. I’m an a roll!

Fish Foam Premium Glass Cleaner Giveaway

When I was asked if I would like to review Fish Foam Premium glass cleaner, I quickly said yes. My husband is a glass cleaning nut. He’s always cleaning bathroom mirrors and car windshields and is       extremely         fussy            about         streaks.  OCD

Fish Foam was created by Fish Window Cleaning which has been in business since 1978 and is America’s largest window cleaning company. There are locations all across the USA.

I tried Fish Foam on the bathroom mirrors and was pleased to see that it is completely drip free, that would be really helpful when cleaning a sunroof.
It’s not wax based like the blue cleaners, so it doesn’t streak. A few swipes with a paper towel and the mirrors were sparkling.
It’s alcohol based so it dries very quickly.
It’s ammonia free.

Photographing mirrors isn’t easy, so you’ll just have to take my word that this is a great product.
I’m pleased with this cleaner and am happy to be offering it to you!
Three readers will receive a 3 pack of Fish Foam. That’s three 19 oz bottles for 3 readers! With the holidays over, most people are cleaning and organizing and it’s a great time to try a new product, especially when a great product like this is free! On the first sunny and warmer day I will be cleaning my windows!

Please log in to rafflecopter to enter the giveaway. You can use your e mail address, you don’t need to have a facebook page. Then just follow the directions. There are 2 chances to win. It’s easy! Any Problems, here’s a tutorial on how to use rafflecopter.

New Year’s resolutions

Every year do you make the same resolutions to  lose weight, eat a healthier diet or stick to an exercise regime?  yeah yeah yeah….We all know that doesn’t work. I stopped doing that and instead resolved to learn something new every year. That worked well for a few years but I still haven’t mastered last years resolution of learning how to roll my r’s. So I’ll never master the Spanish language or French or German, but I’m not giving up.

This year I decided to go in a whole new direction. turn-ahead

2012 is the year to STOP!

*Stop comparing yourself to others. You are who you are, either accept it or do something about it.

*Stop being jealous of others’ achievements. Green with envy You’re only hurting yourself. Did you ever think that others may be jealous of you? Do you really want that?

*Stop hanging onto toxic friendships/relationships. You hate yourself after spending time with these “friends” because they brag, nag or whine and bring you down. Maybe it’s time to say adieu, cya-nara, au revoir. This one has been especially difficult for me.

*Stop putting your needs last. You absolutely must take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else….you’ve heard that one before, I’m sure. It’s true.

*Stop worrying Sarcastic smileMatthew 6:27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

*Stop running from your problems.  Face it and get it over with and you’ll feel so much better.   Phew….

*Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Wallowing in self pity will eat you up.    Be grateful and smile.Sad smile

*Stop holding grudges. If someone hurt you, forgive them. It doesn’t mean that it’s okay for another to hurt you, it means you’re letting go of those negative feelings. As long as you hold that grudge you let them have power over you!

*Stop blaming everyone else. Take responsibility for your own actions.

And one more,

*Stop and smell the roses.Red rose Slow down and make time to enjoy all the loveliness around you.

Here’s to a  New Year!   Can’t wait to get started .

Mary did you know?

Merry Christmas my friends! Blessings to you and your family in the new year. I’m sharing this beautiful Christmas song, it’s one of my favorites.

                      Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?

Did you know,
that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered,
will soon deliver you.

Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?

Did you know,
that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little baby,
you’ve kissed the face of God.

The blind will see
The deaf will hear
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know,
that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding,

is the great I AM

             Christ is the ultimate gift.

                 Rejoice in His birth!

Whoopie Pies! Whoopee

Recently there was an article in the newspaper about the great Maine versus Pennsylvania whoopie pie debate. Each state is claiming this tasty treat as its own creation.

I don’t know anything about that but I  was inspired to bake up a batch of my own.

Lined up like chocolate soldiers, they smelled heavenly and the kitchen was filled with the scent of chocolaty goodness.

Just for fun I colored the filling pink and lavender and added some sanding sugar around the edges.

The daffodils were blooming, the whoopie pies were pretty and delicious ….what a great way to say  “Hello Spring!”

Here’s the recipe.

Linked up at Tasty Tuesday

I‘ve been trying to get some rest and rev up to start working on projects.  Painting the living room is next on my list. I’m painting it the same color as the dining room, SW antique white. Currently it’s whole wheat, from the same color strip. I love whole wheat but in my north facing living room I’m not loving it so much.

I got a new/old sofa to show off and I just finished up a curbside find project………I’m on a roll!   Smile
