A fast way to slipcover a throw pillow.

This has got to be the fastest and easiest way to slipcover a pillows.

Whenever we get new pillows, I like to keep them looking new and crisp for as long as possible and that means no napping on the new pillows. Our old pillows no longer go with the new décor, so I made simple slipcovers for them and they become the napping pillows. You could use this method to change out your pillows for the season or when you want a new look without buying new pillows.

There’s a little sewing but it’s only two shorts seams.pillow

Place the pillow on a piece of fabric with enough fabric on the edge to make a nice seam. I can’t say how much fabric, it depends on the size of your pillow.

Bring one side of fabric over pillow and fold back an edge of at least 1”.

Do the same on the other side. Since I don’t sew this folded over part I like to leave a decent amount of fabric. Make sure to place the folds over each other. You don’t want a big gap here.

The pillow should look like this now.

Before you take out the pillow, mark where you will sew the edges on both sides. It can be as tight or lose as you like. After you sew, you may want to trim the edges to get rid of excess fabric and then turn right side out.

Here you can see where the sewn edges are and how the folds look when it’s finished. Now you can stuff in your pillow. That’s it! You can stop here or add an edge.

If you make the slipcovers loose, you could sew all the way around the edge, (take out the pillow first) for a little nicer look like the blue ones in the picture below. . I chose not to do that this time.

The middle pillows are the slipcovered pillows.  Now we have napping pillows with covers that come off easily for washing.  My husband likes to nap here in the afternoon, so man head smelly pillows no more!

I’ve made pillows covers this way for the European style pillows on our bed. The covers are easy on and easy off and easy to keep clean.

I love the look of lots of comfy pillows but want them fresh smelling and clean. How do you keep your pillows nice and fresh?

$5.00 coffee table in the family room

I found an awesome coffee table at my thrift shop, the one I work at, in the area they call discount land. You never know what you might find there. You just might stumble across a beauty like this square coffee table with a price tag of $5.00.12

This thing has so many possibilities……I can see it as a tufted bench/ottoman/coffee table with a tray on top, can’t you? Yep it’s a pretty sweet find.

So while I’m showing off my new table, I’ll show you some of the family room. Our basement family room was in need of a makeover and I’ve been working on it finishing up some lots of  small projects. I’m happy to say it’s now almost finished. clap

The old door in the corner came from the thrift shop too. It was $6.00 and has a beautiful old cracked and chippy finish and old hardware. Holding the tv is the bottom of a hutch that I painted black2011_01_09_1039 and now wears new knobs from Hobby Lobby.

The Longaberger baskets I had forever and one in the tv stand, (bottom left) is an antique picnic basket….not Longaberger. Only the clock in the middle works but I like the look of three together.  You know that old rule of three……..an odd number is more pleasing to the eye. The old red chair was a previous project and the rug came from a yardsale a few years ago. I think was $6 or $7.00.

The walls are actually a color from Eddie Bauer called almond oil, a nice tan that just doesn’t show well in my photos. The pillow with a leaf/postal design came from CSN stores. I made the burlap table skirt and wreath. That lamp will eventually be replaced.

The candle holders belonged to my Mom and the antlers were a gift.`

These old bottles finally get displayed under the cloche on the round table. I’m putting this room together using items I have, pulling things out of the other side of the basement where my cache of junk waits for me to become inspired.

Beefing up this bookcase is my current project. I’ve added a new back and am ready start trimming it out.

There’s still a few more things to do , but I feel good about getting to this point. smile_regular

~Bunnies 4 Sale~

Yes, this IS ~the Bunnies’ Bungalow~ but it’s time for some of these critters to go.

Here’s a cute Hallmark dish that’s looking for a new home. It’s not too big, just 7″ length x 5″wide & the dish is 3″ deep. Just the perfect size to hold your keys, spare change, rings & little treasures. $5.00 + sh. SOLD to KAT. Thank you!

************************************

Oh how I wish I could keep this pillow, but these colors don’t seem to fit in anywhere in our home. :(

It’s blue, gray, tan, brown, terra cotta with blue & white checks on the reverse. 16′ x 12″. I’m particularly fond of this bunny, he’s not lunching on my flowers! $10.00 + sh.

If you’re interested in either item just email me. Thanks!

The bunnies in our yard have eaten all my pink impatiens! They don’t touch the white ones just the pink ones? Anyone know why? Perhaps the pink ones are strawberry flavored & the white just plain vanilla! My dusty miller is disappearing too…..wonder what flavor that is!?

I’m removing wallpaper this week…UGH! It’s not so bad because it’s just a border…..we’ll see how it goes. Have a great day.

~I Love Pillows~ & an Award~

Pillows are a little bit of luxury & seem to soften up the decor. I love pillows! Any pillow that is trimmed & tasseled seems to call my name. Even though I don’t need more pillows I still browse the store aisles looking for great pillows & pillow inspiration when I’m shopping.
This is the pull out sleeper sofa in the downstairs family room. It’s my 2nd favorite nesting spot……quite comfy & long for tall people like me. The sleeper gets used quite a bit when family visits. Notice all the pillows! Here is the Napoleonic bee print. It’s on of my favorites.

I covered these pillows with a bit of left over fabric from the WTs, hand sewed the fabric together on the back & glued on trim. VOILA!A touch of animal print brings a bit of unexpected drama to the LR sofa. Animal print pillows & a throw are also used in our MB.

The picture below is a pillow I did for my Mom. It’s now in our smaller guest room which I never really decorated in the 10 or so years I’ve lived in this house! Shame on me! I have plans to do it when I retire along with redoing the bigger guest room & the main bath.
The last 4 pictures are examples of how you can change out a store bought pillow & take it from
blah to beautiful with only a bit of fabric glue, some trim & your imagination.

It’s just that easy! Look for simple inexpensive pillows that can be trimmed & tasseled in a jiffy!

Tammy from the Pink Magnolia honored me with this “Young at Heart” award. Thank you so very much! This little girl on the swing reminds me of how much I loved to swing as a child & still do. There’s something so wonderful about swinging high in the air….a carefree feeling I guess. I loved to sing loudly while I was swinging. Songs like You are my Sunshine or My Darlin Clementine. Remember those songs from long ago?You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
you make me happy when skies are gray
you’ll never know dear, how much I love you,
please don’t take my sunshine away.
Oh to be young again…….
