Non-traditional Valentine’s mantel 2014

I really needed to add a little cheer inside because I’m feeling a bit stir crazy!  Wanting to do something different besides the usual reds and pinks, the Valentine’s mantel is dressed up in pretty shades of blue and green. I added in some white pottery and puffy hearts, along with DIY moss balls and pretty ribbon for a fresh, light look to chase away those winter blues.

We’ve used our gas fireplace more this year than previous winters! It’s been so cold and this thing throws off plenty of heat.

To make the puffy hearts, I cut out heart shapes and sewed them together but left a little opening to stuff in some batting, then I finished sewing them.  I left the edges raw and like their imperfect look. It was a quick and easy project for a cold day.

Puffy hearts are hanging from ribbon on each end of the mantel.

These pretty little birds help remind me that Spring is on it’s way. It can’t get here soon enough for me!

The moss balls are a DIY project that I’ll share soon. They aren’t made out of foam balls…..that’s all I’m saying!

So there it is; puffy hearts, pretty ribbon, moss balls and little birds. Now come on Spring!

The pretty white tulips are from the grocery store. There’s nothing like fresh flowers to brighten things up!

Happy Valentine’s day!
