Redecorating the family room and Board and Batten

The board and batten project is finally finished. It wasn’t a difficult project but it does seem like an unending one once you start caulking. We continued the board and batten around the wall into the kitchen, because that seemed like a logical place to stop. The kitchen and family room are now Benjamin Moore palladian blue and it’s time to start decorating. Fun!

You can see the old Laura Ashley gold in the kitchen.

Now it looks like this. I’ve said before that I like green much better than blue, but this color grows on you. It looks a bit gray in this picture and in different light it can appear blue or green. I’ll put a drum shade or lantern above the table.

It’s about time the reds and golds in the family room are gone. This room has been taupe, gold and now palladian blue. For us, that’s about a new color every 5 1/2 years. That’s not so bad, is it? How often do you redecorate?afmrm2

In the past year the faux greenery has gone, along with some of the accessories. Our comfortable old white couch is going. We’ll miss it, but it’s really starting to show it’s age and creaks when you sit on it.

There are a pair of chairs and an ottoman and they’ll be recovered with a neutral fabric, maybe one of these. 2012_02_15_3730

The couch we ordered is from Hickory Craft and should arrive in about 6-8 weeks. It’s a popular style with nail head and turned legs, but this one is a little different because it has a high back.

It will look so different. I’m excited about the changes! I still have to figure out window treatments and tables but that’s part of the fun.

I’m still painting trim in the kitchen but that will be done soon, then I’ll start looking for fabrics and light fixtures.

In a couple weeks I’ll be moving to Word Press and Google friends connect will no longer be available to WP blogs. I hope you will follow me on twitter, facebook, Pinterest and rss feed in a reader.Smile  Thank you! I appreciate you coming by so much!

Your project came out so beautifully. Every five years? Nope, not that often. If I don't have to paint, I'm a happy camper. I make a lousy updater. So you're moving to Word Press? Well that will be an interesting move. You'll leave a bread crumb trail or something, right?!

Looks great…I want to try this, just not sure what room to try it out in. Going to follow you with Facebook.

    Blessings,
    Linda

Love the board and batten, I'd like to do that in my laundry room.

Isn't it funny about the reds & golds? I had it all over my house and thought it was so rich looking, and it was, but it's time has come at my house too and I don't have any of it left! I'm doing the neutrals too.

I'm in the market for a new sofa too and I love yours. Could you send me a link and the style of yours?

    Thanks!
    Judy

Debra, Love how the board and batten turned out! Your room looks wonderful, so light and bright. I admire everyone that has gone to the lighter and brighter colors. I'm still hanging onto my ole reds and dark colors. That is my comfort zone and seems to work the best with my antiques, and to be honest makes me feel comfortable and cozy. I am hoping we get into a historic home when we buy this spring (still working on the Mister) so who knows what I will come up with. Have a blessed day!

    Hi Deb~
I love the new look. Hey, the red & golds were perfect at the time. But we all need a new look now and then, and our rooms might as well! It is more fun having seen the changes through so many years!

It looks great! Love the way the B&B turned out! I'm sure that you're glad to have all that caulking behind you. ;-)
I really like the fabrics you chose for the ottoman. Loving the houndstooth, and the small animal print. Both are neutral but fun. Can't wait to see how things turn out.
It's time for me to start going room by room and updating my paint and decor. I am ready for a change. The upside is, there will be lots for me to blog about! :-)

Love this look and am planning on doing it in my dining room. One question – how high is your top board? I’m trying to figure out how high to go. Thanks!
